Expand Medicaid vigil in Apex

Expand Medicaid vigil in Apex

I serve on Apex Town Council because I care about people, our community, and how public policy impacts the people in our town. I work for the citizens of Apex by prioritizing quality of life issues in my decision-making, building collaborative relationships across communities, and being a voice for proactive stewardship.

Quality of Life

There are many factors that influence one’s quality of life, health, and well-being. We enjoy a number of diverse educational, economic, recreational, and cultural opportunities living in Apex. Geographically located near the Research Triangle Park, nationally recognized universities, and the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, Apex is a very attractive place to live and work. Rapid growth has spawned many developments which have led to a number of concerns. As a member of your Town Council, I am working with my colleagues and Town Staff to develop a long range vision for Apex that incorporates diverse housing options and business opportunities, and carefully considers walkability, connectivity, school capacity, environmental impact, and transportation/traffic issues when reviewing local development proposals. I support efforts for downtown enhancement and revitalization, and I have voted for proposals that are consistent with the needs and vision of our town. I pledge to make quality of life for all the people of Apex a top priority.

Collaboration Across Communities

As a mental health professional and small business owner since January of 2000, I have a good amount of experience in working with diverse groups of people. I value listening to others, hearing and understanding different perspectives, learning from one another, and using reliable data for decision-making. Investing in relationships is a cornerstone for trust and community building. As your Town Council member, I have worked to build diverse and inclusive relationships and partnerships with Town staff, residents and community leaders, and local, state and federally elected officials. I am using my collaborative skills to help build a strong, healthy, welcoming, and safe Apex for all.

Proactive Stewardship

I am working to be a good steward of environmental and financial resources. Having grown up in a blue collar North Carolina farming community, I learned at a young age to respect and care for our natural resources and to invest and spend financial resources carefully and wisely. I am mindful of how my decision-making on Town Council impacts trees and green spaces, natural habitats, storm run-off, our water supply, and the air we breathe. I support recycling, composting, tree ordinances, robust tree replacement, and an environmental review board to assist with town planning and development. Additionally, I want Apex to be a leader in addressing severe weather events and climate change, and I do support the Town’s goal of transitioning to 100% clean energy by 2050.
