Hello Apex!

My name is Cheryl Stallings, and I am a member of the Apex Town Council. I serve the residents of Apex because I care deeply about people, community, and how public policy impacts people in our town.

Why I Ran for Town Council

Our community has experienced rapid growth. In 2015, Money Magazine named Apex the #1 small town in America to live. Since that time, the population of Apex grew quickly from 42,000 to almost 60,000 residents. (Now, we are almost at 70,000 residents). While it is wonderful that so many people have chosen Apex as their home, growth has brought numerous construction projects – some with negative consequences. These projects impact traffic flow, roads, school capacity, storm run-off from clear cutting trees, and ultimately our quality of life. Many of us have experienced traffic congestion first hand on our work commute, or experienced the frustration of traffic delays when trying to get to a school function or extra-curricular event for our children.

As a member of your Town Council, I have worked with my colleagues and Town Staff to develop a long range vision for Apex that incorporates diverse housing options and business opportunities, and carefully considers school capacity, environment impact, and transportation/traffic issues when reviewing local development proposals. As a mental health professional and small business owner, I understand the importance of working to promote and achieve quality of life for people and communities. Improved quality of life leads to better health outcomes and life satisfaction at home, school, work and play.

In our active and vibrant Apex community, I believe it is important to engage our neighbors across the street, in our extra-territorial jurisdiction, and across the town lines as we work together to ensure a bright and sustainable future for all. I have used my skills to not only collaborate within the town, but have also looked beyond these boundaries to work with our school officials, county government, and state legislature to make sure Apex’s voice is heard and represented. I have the skills to collaborate, problem-solve, and find data-driven solutions.

And finally, I am committed to being a proactive steward of our natural and financial resources. I have worked to minimize environment impact with future development decisions, and I have supported green energy initiatives that are sound and fiscally responsible. The environmental and financial practices that we implement today will be an investment in the future generations and sustainability of our town.
